Axar Patel Waited A Long Time For A Test Cap And He Grabbed The Opportunity With Both Hands

When Axar Patel received his Test cap for the 2nd match vs England in Chennai, it was a dream coming true for the 27-year-old.7 years since he burst on the international stage, Axar was finally playing his first Test match. The ultimate format of the game was going to see him in action.
Axar made his international debut back in 2014. Sadly, he could not maintain a regular place in the side and has not played any format for India since 2018. So when he found a place in the squad and eventually the team for this game, it was the answer to his prayers.
But of course when one gets the opportunity, one needs to make it count, especially if there are other options. So Axar knew he had to do well. He did not let those who believed in him down.
Axar produced respectable figures of 2/40 in the first innings. His maiden Test wicket was Joe Root which was an occasion to savour. But he was far from done.
In the second innings, he took 5/60 as India won 317 runs to level the series. The spinners took 17 out of the 20 wickets and he finished with 7. An auspicious start indeed to his Test career.
Better late than never as they say and now one hopes he can build on this success in the years to come.
