Amazon Prime’s Tandav is in Controversy

Complaint lodged in Lucknow’s Hazratganj police station against the makers of Amazon Prime Video’s new web series Tandav. They were charged of allegedly hurting the Hindu religion sentiments.

Tandav is a political drama series starring Saif Ali Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub, Tigmanshu Dhulia and Dimple Kapadia.

An FIR was lodged under various sections of the IPC and Information Technology Act. Amazon India Original Content Head Aparna Purohit, Director of the series Ali Abbas Zafar, producer Himanshu Krishna Mehra and writer Gaurav Solanki, were named in the FIR.

The SI at Hazratganj Police Station alleged that in the 17th minute of the first episode, characters dressed in an improper way and representing Hindu gods and goddesses were shown speaking in undignified and “low-level” language.

“Objectionable” parts should be removed from the series so that the atmosphere of peace, harmony and common brotherhood was not spoilt, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati tweeted.
